ABSTRACT: Records of a Milwaukee stationary, book binding, and blank book manufacturing company founded by Henry Niedecken, including journals (1845-1851); ledgers (1853-1856); a business letter book (1848-1854); a cash book (1854-1856), an invoice book (1848-1854), and a day book (1865, April-December).



ACCESS RESTRICTIONS: There are no access restrictions on the materials, and the collection is open to all members of the public in accordance with state law. However, the researcher assumes full responsibility for conforming with the laws of libel, privacy, and copyright which may be involved in the use of this collection (Wisconsin Statutes 19.21-19.39).

ARRANGEMENT NOTE: Volumes 1-4 are located in box 1, volumes 5-8 are located in box 2, and volume 9 (package 1) is loose.

ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY NOTE: H. Niedecken & Company was established in Milwaukee in 1845 by Henry Niedecken, a German immigrant, who was born in Bacharach, Germany, in 1810 and died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1887. He left Germany for the United States in 1840 and eventually settled in Milwaukee in 1847. The company he established manufactured blank books, ran a stationary store, and bound books. This firm is still in business in Milwaukee.
