Papers of a Republican elected from Wisconsin's 84th assembly district in 1968, 1970, and 1972, and who was minority caucus chairman. Includes correspondence, news releases, printed bills, reference materials, speeches, and other papers relating to Alberts' legislative interests in the Wisconsin State Assembly, especially a code of ethics, and conservation and pollution control.The collection also documents Alberts' activities on many committees, especially Conservation, Natural Resources, and Nuclear Facilities. Collection includes correspondence, speeches, and scrapbooks relating to Broughton's editorship of the Sheboygan Press and wide ranging professional and social activities. Most of the materials pertain to Broughton's other activities as member of the Wisconsin Democratic party, philanthropist, anti-prohibitionist, fund raiser, conservationist, champion of the Wisconsin cheese industry, and patron of state and local history. Some of the correspondence deals with the management of the newspaper. Due to his newspaper work and broad range of activities, Broughton exchanged letters with many people of state and national importance. Finding aid available in the Archives.

Papers of a Republican State Assembly member from Waukesha County from 1956-1968, and who resigned his seat to become State Treasurer. The papers relate exclusively to Clemens' activities as a legislator. Except for the 1963 legislative session, most files are fragmentary and incomplete. Most of the collection consists of both incoming and outgoing letters relating to specific bills before the Assembly.
The bills include increasing teachers' retirement benefits; merchandise trading stamps; public transportation for students in private schools; Blue Cross coverage; and interstate medical health compact; regulation of billboards; use of phosphates in detergents; protection of the Wolf River; fair housing laws; and the reading of rights to arrest suspects. Also included is the General Obligation Bond of 1970 which was signed by Clemens as State Treasurer, and photographs of Clemens signing the bond and State Assembly photographs from 1957-1958 and 1959-1960.

Also contains extensive correspondence with Wisconsin governors and members of the state legislature (1930s-1940s), and with members of the U.S. Congress from almost every Wisconsin district. The collection includes articles, publicity materials, and speeches on conservation by Labudde; reports of the conservation committee of the Wisconsin Federation of Women's Clubs; and scrapbooks. Records of the women's civic group involved in studying community issues, influencing political decision making, and encouraging voter participation. Includes minutes and reports of annual, executive and board of directors' meetings, bulletins, bylaws, committee records, correspondence, anniversary records, financial and membership records, and national and state League records. Local study issues illustrate societal and political concerns of the Milwaukee League.

Most materials date from the 1960s and 1970s, covering the administration of justice, air pollution, city government, education, energy, equal rights, foreign trade, housing, human rights, land use, reapportionment, sewerage, transportation, voter registration and rights, and water quality. Includes a 1933 file on open housing; partial records of the Inter-League Council, formed in 1959 to coordinate local League activities, consisting of agreements and amendments, minutes and reports of meetings, bulletins, by-laws, convention reports, and financial records; files of annual reports, bulletins, minutes, correspondence, financial records, membership records, scrapbooks, and study files from the League of Womend Voters of West Allis and of Greendale. Records of a group of Milwaukee residents and business people interested in rehabilitation and preservation of older neighborhoods, together with incomplete papers on several organizations with which MTNA cooperated. Administrative records include articles of incorporation and by-laws; minutes of the general membership meetings; and lists of members. Extensive correspondence, primarily of MTNA official Father John Baumgartner, is present, but committee files and financial records are fragmentary.

Also includes an interrupted run of MTNA's two newsletters. Records of other organizations and programs include the Midtown Conservation Project, a controversial urban renewal program; Milwaukee Alliance of Concerned Citizens; Westside Action Coalition; and Midtown Clergy. Collection includes the official records of the Maier administration, including correspondence, memorabilia, memoranda, reports, and speeches. Most of the records were created by Maier's office staff, especially Richard J. Budelman, Bradley Carr, Bert Mulroy, and Robert J. Welch. A few records, mostly from city offices, dating 1959-1960, can also be found in the collection.

Subjects particularly well documented include: the city budget; civil defense; civil rights, especially the 1967 civil disturbances; administrative and departmental operations; disputes with the local press, particularly the Milwaukee Journal; housing issues and the Model Cities program; interstate highway construction; licensing of cable television; the metropolitan sewer system; non-point pollution control; redevelopment of Milwaukee's downtown, including the Bradley Center, Grand Avenue Mall, and MECCA facility; state and federal aid programs; Summerfest; Maier's reelection campaigns; and his role as a national urban leader.

Also included are records of various political organizations with which Maier was associated, including the National League of Cities, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, and the Wisconsin Alliance of Cities. Available on microfilm are editorials from the Milwaukee Journal and Milwaukee Sentinel; scrapbooks; and speeches. Milwaukee Tape 1235A contains audio cassette and reel-to-reel tapes of some events that Maier participated in. Finding aid available in the Archives.

Papers of a Milwaukee businessman and leader of the Wisconsin conservation movement. The collection reflects some of the conservation issues of the 1920s and 1930s. Consists mainly of congratulatory letters from supporters at the time of Noyes' various appointments, containing expressions of the writers' views on conservation topics. Correspondents include Wilhelmine La Budde, William Aberg, Charles Broughton, Halbert L. Hoard, and others. Finding aid available in the Archives.

Papers of a Milwaukee, Wisconsin elementary school teacher and conservation leader. The papers primarily consist of files on the conservation organizations with which she was president: the Milwaukee and La Budde Memorial chapters of the Izaak Walton League of America. The material includes minutes, agendas, bulletins, reports, and correspondence. Similar but less extensive material is included on other organizations such as the Environmental Education Council of Greater Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Council for Conservation Education. Subject files include correspondence on the Namekagon, Milwaukee, and Wolf rivers with noted ecologist Sigurd Olson, legislators Gaylord Nelson and Henry Reuss, and Walter Scott of the Wisconsin Conservation Department. Additional correspondence of IWL leader Haskell Noyes pertains to the purchase of Moon Lake in Fond du Lac County and its presentation to the State of Wisconsin. Of uncertain provenance is a file on the Walton Boosters, 1930. Photographs received with the collection depict conservation education; others show Pohl in a tintype portrait and with Arthur Molstad, Aroline Schmidt, Walter Scott, and teachers of the 68th Street School. Miscellaneous records of the Fish Creek Park Company and the neighborhood of Fairy Chasm, Wisconsin, compiled by long-time residents Jack and Martha Prince. The collection contains numerous photographs of area homes and public events; oral history interviews with other residents; and minutes of the Fish Creek Park Company's Board of Directors. The Company, founded in 1892 and dissolved in 1971, bought and sold real estate in the private resort community of Fairy Chasm. The community evolved into two sections (North and South Fairy Chasm), and incorporated into the cities of Mequon (1957) and Bayside (1955). The collection documents the growth of the community, changes in home ownership, and local pride in the environmental beauty of the area. Finding aid available in the Archives.

Papers of Henry S. Reuss, Democratic representative of Wisconsin's Fifth Congressional District in the House of Representatives from 1954 through his retirement in 1982. The papers, documenting his political career and legislative interests, consist of records of his Milwaukee field office and his congressional office in Washington, D.C. The Milwaukee records contain correspondence, memoranda, subject files, and family records. Subjects documented include community groups and issues, public relations, transportation policy and urban redevelopment. The Washington records document his legislative interests, including banking, economics, civil rights, conservation, transportation and urban renewal. Public relations files contain campaign materials, press releases, speech transcripts, travel files, voting records and publications by Reuss. Records, mainly 1971-1972, of a nature education center owned by the National Audubon Society in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and of the local citizens group, Citizens for the Nine Mile Farm Nature Center, which worked to establish the center in 1972. Included is extensive correspondence (some also available on microfilm) between members of the citizens group, the National Audubon Society, and members of the Uihlein family, which owned the property, and their lawyers; legal documents; notes; minutes; newspaper clippings and scrapbooks (only available on microfilm); planning documents; and photographs. 
More recent material consists of brochures, schedules, and advertising; an incomplete run of the center newsletter; and correspondence of Winifred Woodmansee and her files on the Education Committee of the Friends of the Schlitz Audubon Center.

Papers of a female leader in Wisconsin conservation efforts, consisting primarily of Schmitt's files dealing with conservation in the state, many of which are routine or social in nature. The papers regarding organizations are fragmentary, and there is no personal material. Because many individuals were involved in more than one organization, there is some overlap on the files. Includes the correspondence and newsletters of Forests, a short-lived national organization headed by Schmitt and Charles H. Stoddard.

Also contains correspondence with conservation leaders Aldo Leopold and Gifford Pinchot, Ernest Swift of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and Louis Radke of the Wisconsin Conservation League. Includes materials concerning the Flambeau wilderness area, and the conservation of forest resources for the Menomonee Indians. Finding aid available in the Archives.

Collection consists of miscellaneous records of the Center, mostly dating from the 1970s. The correspondence files include letters to and from UWM administrators concerning the Center, including the Dean of the College of Letters & Science Joseph G. Baier and Director Clifford H. Mortimer. The correspondence files document concerns over funding; the purchase of a research facility for the Center; staffing, including the efforts to attract Mortimer to head the Center; and reasearch projects. Also contains some files on the Council for Marine Studies, which directed marine research at the UW campuses; the acquisition and conversion of the Research Vessel (R/V) Neeskay, including photographs of its launching; proposals and requests for additional support for the Sea Grant Program from the National Science Foundation; and the proceedings of the 1973 Conference on Port Planning and Development as Related to Problems of U.S. Ports and the U.S. Coastal Environment. Miscellaneous records of a Great Lakes commercial fishers' association, kept by Nelson LeClair, a district director; includes bulletins and newsletters of the association and the Great Lakes Fisheries Association, convention programs, and correspondence and briefs sent to the Wisconsin Conservation Department, and a 1947 legal brief on the proper size mesh for pound net fishing in Lake Michigan.

Records of the nonprofit organization established in 1910 to support the Washington Park Zoo and, after its establishment in 1953, its successor, the Milwaukee County Zoo. The records document the zoological society, not the zoo itself,  which is an agency of Milwaukee County government. The collection includes complete minutes of the board of directors as well as less complete files of constitutions and by-laws, committee minutes, general correspondence of society officers and directors, financial records, subject files, reports, publications, and newsclippings.

Coverage of the administrative correspondence is spotty and best on the tenure of George Spaulding as zoo director. Additional correspondence and blueprints document building projects and exhibits constructed during the 1970s and fundraising efforts for the new Milwaukee County Zoo during the 1950s. In general, the records focus on policy, membership, fundraising, public outreach, and development of the animal collection. 

Photographs (PH Milwaukee Mss 204) housed in this collection include images of zoo activities, views of both the Milwaukee County Zoo and the Washington Park Zoo, personnel, and animals and their zoo habitats. Several photographs of the television personality Marlin Perkins are also included in the collection. Finding aid available in the Archives.
