The Browsing Collection includes recently published books and magazines, and is located in the Current Periodicals reading room, lower level, west wing.
Small carts and baskets for the easy conveyance of library materials are available inside the entrances of the second and third floor reading rooms in the west wing.
Library stations There are 45 Internet-ready computers available to the general public in the Research and Instruction Support (RIS) area on the first floor, west wing of the library. Several other catalog lookup stations and research terminals are placed throughout the library.
Laptop checkout Free laptop checkout for students is available from the Libraries’ Multimedia Department on the first floor, east wing.
Campus computing lab For those with an ePanther account, there is a campus computer lab, administered by University Information Technology Services (UITS), on the second floor, east wing.
The Gathering Place @ your library, located on the first floor of the east wing, houses the Grind coffee bar--serving Alterra coffee drinks, teas, juices, and bakery items--and offers comfortable seating and wireless access to the internet.
Headphones for library use are available for checkout in the Music Library, located on the second floor, east wing. The Music Library also offers over a thousand CDs of popular, classical, and world music for checkout. The Multimedia Library, located on the first floor, east wing, has hundreds of films and documentaries on DVD and videotape for checkout.
Free public lockers are provided throughout the building so that users may safeguard their possessions while studying in the UWM Libraries. Lockers can be found on the first and second floors of the east wing, near the restrooms, and on the second and third floors of the west wing, off the stairwell.
One pay phone is available, off the main stairwell on the second floor, west wing. A number of campus phones are located throughout the building.
Photocopiers are located throughout the library building (see map). Black and white copies are 15 cents per exposure for the standard 8½ x 11 single sided copy; color copies are 35 cents. All copiers take a copy card and five copiers will also accept bills and coins. Three of the copy machines provide the option to scan materials and save the pdfs to a portable drive as well as copy in color. These machines are located in Reserve, Current Periodicals and Research and Instructional Support. Copiers for microformat materials are also available. Copies cost 25 cents and require the use of a copy card.
In addition to the three copy machines which can also scan, a flatbed scanner is available for use in the Current Periodicals Room. There is no charge for scanning copies to a CD-ROM or USB memory stick. The Microforms area has digital microform scanning equipment.
Several computer printers are available in the Research and Instruction Support area on the first floor, west wing of the library. Printers are also available for those with an ePanther account in the computer lab on the second floor, east wing of the library.
Printing from an electronic format or online resource requires the use of a copycard. Printing costs 6 cents per sheet of paper and all printing is done duplex.
Copycards are available from machines located in the first floor, west wing lobby and first floor, east wing lobby. The initial cost of $1 includes the card and $1 worth of copying. Once the card is purchased, it can be kept and reused by encoding it with even-dollar amounts from the same machine.
The Libraries hosts a variety of events and exhibits each year, including the Friends of the Golda Meir Used Book Sale, the Holzheimer Maps and America Lecture, and the Fromkin Memorial Lecture on Social Justice. All are free and open to the public.
Restrooms are located off the main stairwell on the lower level, second floor, and third floor (unisex) of the West Wing; on the first, second, and third floors of the east wing; and on the fourth floor.
Located on the lower level, west wing, this is a meeting and study area for tutoring. To arrange for tutoring, please visit the TARC main office in Bolton 659.
Study areas can be found throughout the building. Group study areas are available in the lower level walkway. The second floor, west wing is designated a quiet study floor; Room W249 on this floor is a silent study room.
Carrels are available for faculty, staff and graduate students on a limited, first-come, first-served basis. Carrel assignments are made for a semester. Applications are available at the Main Circulation Desk. For more information, see carrel policy.
