SPANISH AND PORTUGUESE


Academic Program
 

B.A., M.A in Foreign Language and Literature, and graduate Certificate in Translation. A coordinated degree program leading to a simultaneous MAFLL/MLIS, in cooperation with the School of Information Studies, is available. An undergraduate minor is also available.

Emphases are on Spanish language and linguistics, medieval to contemporary Spanish literature, Pre-Columbian to contemporary Latin American literature; Spanish and Spanish American culture; and Latino literature.

        The following LC classification range descriptions represent areas of concentration for Spanish and Portuguese:

        PQ (Romance Literatures): Spanish literature; Portuguese literature.

Languages
 

Spanish and English. Primarily original language material is collected for Spanish literature, but some translations are acquired. For Luzo-Brazilian literature, major works in English translation are selected. In Portuguese, only dictionaries are collected.

Other Considerations
 

Materials collected for the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies have strengthened holdings of interest to Spanish and Portuguese.
