Academic Program

B.S. and M.S. in Clinical Laboratory Sciences; B.S. and M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders; and B.S. and M.S. in Occupational Therapy. B.S. in Health Information Administration, Health Sciences, and Recreation. B.S. and M.S. in Kinesiology. Ph.D. (Program under development as of Spring 2003.)

Clinical Laboratory Sciences: Training for medical technologists and other biomedical scientists emphasizes biomedical research in biochemistry, public health microbiology, hematology, immunology, nutrition, human pathophysiology and organ systems, clinical toxicology, and therapeutic drug monitoring, as well as cytotechnology, radiologic technology and diagnostic sonography.

Communication Sciences and Disorders: The emphasis is on audiology and speech-language pathology, especially assessment and intervention, in age groups from children to older adults; this includes counseling and services in schools. Disorders particularly studied include cognitive communication disorders, aphasia, stuttering, craniofacial disorders such as cleft palate, and hearing loss. Clinical instrumentation, and communication disorders in multicultural populations, are topics of special interest.

Kinesiology: Biomechanics; exercise physiology, including stress testing and advanced metabolic/endocrine physiology and cardiorespiratory physiology; human motor control, including theoretical and empirical study of skilled activity; athletic and fitness training, preventive and rehabilitative exercise, psychological and sociological aspects of human movement.

Occupational Therapy: Prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of psychosocial disorders and physical disabilities; pediatric, child/youth, gerontological; and industrial treatment and rehabilitation, including alternative treatment and educational settings; ergonomics, including measurement, and statistical, epidemiological, and legal/regulatory considerations; instrumentation theory; computer applications; and assistive and rehabilitation technology.
