GIS and Base Map Data for the US
A starting point when beginning to track down sources of digital geospatial data and attributes related to the US. It contains data and metadata.

Managed Areas Database/University of California Santa Barbara
MAD is a comprehensive GIS database for the conterminous United States which includes all types of managed areas. Examples include National and State Parks and Forests, Wilderness Areas, Indian and Military Reservations, and Wildlife Refuges.

National Atlas [of the United States] Map Maker
These map layers can be used in geographic information, desktop mapping, and computer-aided design systems. All map layers are available in Shapefile format and in the Topological Vector Profile of the Spatial Data Transfer Standard.

National Park Service and Geographic Information Systems
The GIS Program is aimed at implementing GIS in the parks and institutionalizing the use of GIS throughout the Service for planning, cultural and natural resource management, scientific research, interpretation and other management functions.

National Mapping Information/USGS
USGS site, containing information about news, data, mapping products, etc.

New York State Geographic Inoformation Sysytems Clearinghouse
The Clearinghouse provides information on and links to GIS education and training opportunities; other state and Federal GIS resources, including downloadable data from the US Census Bureau and the USGS; GIS user groups throughout New York; and GIS-related listservs.

Spatial Graphics
Contains useful information pertaining to GIS, digital mapping, geomatics, and other computer graphics related disciplines. Areas of interest are in environmental mapping, geologic mapping, urban parcel mapping, and business geographics. Contains FREE downloadable data sets.

Texas Natural Resource Information System Web
This site is the state's clearinghouse for natural resources data. It is the distribution center for USGS maps and has numerous other map collections. Digital data pertain to water resources, geology, Census, and other natural resource data.

US Geological Survey-National Mapping Information
Access to a variety of USGS digital data sets. Provided are lists of each data set, a link to data examples, a hyperlink to user guide information, and a list of the methods available for transferring the data using FTP.

USGS Geo Data
The site provides a list of each data set, a link to data examples, a hyperlink to user guide information, and a list of methods available for transferring the data using FTP. They are not directly viewable using WWW browser or image viewing tools.

USGS Global Land Information System (GLIS)
Contains a robust set of land information data sets. Contains soils, hydrology, land cover, satellite imagery, and more.

USGS National water quality assessment data warehouse
Contains chemical, biological, and physical water quality data from 36 USGS study units across the U.S.

Utah AGRC [Automated Geographic Reference Center]
Contains Utah GIS data and information about GIS training, services, and GIS coordination in Utah.

USGS - View USGS Maps and Aerial Photo Images Online
This site to selected USGS Business Partner Program (BP) and Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) partner sites where you may view USGS maps and aerial photo images from your Web browser.

Washington State Geospatial Data Archive
Contains metadata, FREE data sources, a data center, and links. It specializes in data for the Pacific Northwest.

Wireless Telecommunications Bureau Database Files
FCC Data. Contains database tables for wireless modes of communications. Examples are Land Mobile Database Files, 220 MHz Database Files, Airport Facilities, Aviation, Cellular, Coast, Commercial, Marine, Microwave, Paging, and more.

Office of Land Information Services [Wisconsin Dept. of Administration]
TIGER 2000 files for Wisconsin are now available at this site. Thirteen files (i.e., layers) are available for each county, and 12 files are available in statewide format. The files are in zip file format and are are available for immediate download.

Office of Land Information Services - Wisconsin Land Information Program
Information about and made available by the Wisconsin Land Information Program, a voluntary, statewide program that provides financial support to local governments for land records modernization fforts.

Spatial Information & Analysis Consortium (SIAC)

UW-Madison LICGF (Land Information and Computer Graphics Facility)
The Land Information and Computer Graphics Facility (LICGF) is to provide research, training, and outreach in the use of land and geographic information systems (LIS/GIS). They focus on land records modernization, land and natural resource management applications, and the use of information for land-use decision-making.

WISCLINC-Wisconsin Land Information Clearinghouse
A site to retrieve geospatial data and metadata, related land and reference information, and the Wisconsin agencies which produce or maintain these items. Geographic information available through this site is in the form of Graphic Interchange Format Files (.gif) and ARC/INFO shape files (.shp).

Wisconsin Archaeological and Historical Resource Database (WisAHRD)
For a substantial annual online subscription fee, users can access the database WisAHRD. WisAHRD contains information compiled by the Wisconsin Historical Society regarding historic structures, archaeological sites and burials located within the state. Four separate databases make up WisAHRD: Archeological Sites Inventory (ASI), Architectural History Inventory (AHI), Burial Sites Inventory (BSI), and the Bibliography of Archeological Reports (BAR).

NAIP = National Agriculture Imagery Program. Free Download of 2005 1-meter resolution photo-mosaics in MrSID format, by county boundaries. These are very large files and you will need a high-speed Internet connection.

WisconsinView
WisconsinView is dedicated to building a remote sensing community in Wisconsin that provides citizens easy online access to federal imagery data products. WisconsinView is supported by USGS federal funding through the America-View Inc. Consortium.
