American Geographical Society
The American Geographical Society is an organization based in New York, described as a 'learned society', established by business people (leading executives and investors in the railroad, shipping, banking, telegraph, and oil industries) and public servants (governors, military officers, diplomats, jurists) to produce and disseminate up-to-date, high quality geographical data and analysis important to them and useful to others. The library of the Society was moved from New York to Milwaukee in 1978 and that library, now known as the AGSL, or American Geographical Society Library, is part of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Libraries.

Current Geographical Publications
In August 1978, the AGSL, the publisher of Current Geographical Publications, was transferred from New York City to the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Beginning with Volume 41, No. 3, March 1978, Current Geographical Publications has been published by the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Libraries in cooperation with the American Geographical Society, which remains in New York City. It is issued monthly ten times a year, except July and August.

Federal Depository Library Program
The AGSL recives a variety of cartographic materials from the Federal Depository Library Program. For more informatio nabout the program, see the U.S. Government Printing Office web page about this program.

North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS)
NACIS is an organization of specialists in the field of geographic information. Founded in 1980, it has grown into a vibrant society with membership throughout North America and the World. NACIS welcomes new members from the traditional and emerging professions that define geographic information science today. The AGSL is the business office of NACIS. Map Society of Wisconsin
The Map Society of Wisconsin was formed in 1996 to bring together people interested in all aspects of maps and mapping--their history, uses, production and preservation regardless of format.  The society was founded through and is based at the AGSL.  To inquire about membership contact (414)-229-6282.2007-2008 Membership Form

UWM GIS Council
The UWM GIS Council is made up of an interdisciplinary group of faculty and staff from ten departments and seven institutions.  The AGSL is one of these seven institutions.  The council as been meeting on a regular basis since 1990 to share information and promote a multidisciplinary GIS capability at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Earth Science Information Centers (ESIC)
ESIC
is a cooperative agreement between the U.S. Geological Survey and the AGS Library. The AGSL recieves a variety of maps, posters, and various other items from ESIC.
