Ed. Tech. Fee Projects Announced
Two percent of the tuition paid by UWM students
supports the Educational Technology Program and
is referred to as the Educational Technology Fee.
The Educational Technology Program serves to
enhance student access to educational
technologies, i.e., applications and solutions that
enable students to access information for learning.
Each year, the Student Association and the Provost
appoint the Advisory Committee on Educational
Technology Fees (ACETF). ACETF is comprised of
five students, two representatives from technology
governance groups and non-voting ex officio
members as appropriate. The ACETF establishes
priorities for the fund, solicits and reviews proposed
projects and makes allocation recommendations to
the Provost. Since all students pay the Educational
Technology Fee, the highest priority is given to the
development of projects that will directly benefit the
entire student body.
The Educational Technology Program received
$1,553,800 for the current fiscal year. Funding was
allocated based on the recommendations of the
ACETF in support of the following projects:
- Electronic Reserve - Continuing support plus
enhancements (additional scanner and staff
time) - $88,500
- Digitizing Art and Music - UWM Libraries & Peck
School of the Arts collaborative project (add
digital audio to Electronic Reserve; digitize art
slide collection) - $28,100
- Volunteer Center (computer program to aid
student volunteerism) - $4,000
- Tutoring & Academic Resource Center -
Continuing support - $17,550
- Campus Computer Labs and UWM Help Desk- Continuing Support - $846,200
- Campus Computer Labs - Additional staffing
and training - $75,000
- UWM Modem Pool Upgrade (install new 56kbps
modems) - $117,000
- PantherPrint Subsidy (partially fund student
printing costs to keep PantherPrint fees to a
minimum) - $65,000
- UWM expanded modem pool – continuing
support - $79,788
- OASIS Implementation (partial funding for the
implementation of PeopleSoft student
information system) - $232,662
