NOC Numbers

I&MT’s Network Services Department, also known as the NOC (Network Operations Center), is responsible for the following three areas of campuswide technical support:

1. Telephone Services — telephone line, voicemail and printed Staff Directory-related issues.
2. Network Engineering — advanced networking projects, network routing/traffic management and IP addressing.
3. Network Operations — installation of commun-ications, cabling, installation and maintenance of networking hardware.

2003 was a busy year for the NOC. As of early November 2003, year-to-date numbers for calendar year 2003 were:

21 miles of additional Cat6 cable. Cat6 cable is a type of computer cabling material.

• 179 new Ethernet connections bringing the current NOC-managed total to 9,893 Ethernet connections.

• Installation of 560 new jacks, including voice and data. Currently, there are 7,591 NOC-managed voice jacks in use with Centrex or ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) phone numbers on them.

• 10,524 network connections, which include servers, inter-connecting networking hardware, and over 7,000 numbers with voicemail.
