Listed below are many of the frequently asked questions that
the SECC team has encountered during the campaign. We hope
this format will provide our UWM family with as much information
as possible to make informed choices regarding their designation.
Continue to review this link for weekly updates. If you have
questions that you would like answered, please send us an

Q: How
is the fiscal agent selected for the campaign?
A. United Way is the fiscal agent for the State and
University Employees combined campaign. A city-wide committee
of state and university employees chose United Way as the agent.
Their fee is covered by a charge on the donation of anywhere
from $2 on a $100 donation to a high of $7 on a donation (depends
on the cost of printing the booklets, forms, etc. each year,
as well as the staff time). (For example: A $100 donation may
mean that the agency you have designated receives anywhere from
$93 to $98, depending on what expenses totaled out to be.) The
fee is paid by the city-wide committee after the campaign is
over to ensure that only expenses are paid for. No money is made
by United Way. They receive no dollars to distribute to any agencies
from us!
Q:
How do I contribute to a group that is not included in the SECC
brochure?
A. Per United Way, a donor's option to write in a designated
agency is not an option in the SECC, as the State determines
which agencies are and/or are not eligible for entry into the
SECC. So, an agency must be approved by the State and listed
in the brochure to receive funds from the SECC.
Q: How were the umbrella groups selected?
A: The umbrella
groups were determined by a committee of State employees (our colleagues).
Q: I do not support one of the charities in a particular umbrella
group. Why should I give to SECC?
A: SECC provides a combined opportunity to give with almost 400
choices of charities/agencies. Please select a charity that fits
with your personal philosophy and make your contribution to that
agency during the campaign. Your choice is protected!
Q: How many people have access to my personal pledge card?
A: Once you have completed your card, feel free to place it in a
sealed envelope and hand it to your unit rep. The only person that
will see your request is Payroll.
