Alert Student Actions Results in Arrest

On February 26 th , 2008 at 11:15pm, a UWM Police Officer was flagged down by a citizen at E. North Ave. and N. Oakland Ave. The citizen reported that there was a male being chased by two other males just north of their location.

The UWM Officer observed a male running towards his squad being chased by two juvenile males. Upon observing the marked police squad, the two juvenile suspects stopped chasing the male and began to run away from the squad. The UWM Officer observed the suspects throw down a silver air pistol and a radio face plate.

UWM Police Officers apprehended the suspects near E. Thomas Ave. and N. Bartlett Ave. It was determined later that the juveniles had broken into a vehicle in the 1700 block of E. Bradford . An alert UWM student observed the break in, called Milwaukee Police, and followed the suspects hoping to direct the police to them.

The suspects saw the student following them and began chasing him yelling, “I'm going to kill you!” That's when the UWM squad arrived at the scene.

The case was turned over to the Milwaukee Police Department for investigation.

Two Suspects Arrested in Armed Robbery Case

Thanks to the quick actions of Milwaukee Fire Department Paramedics and passing civilians, two suspects are in custody for an attempt armed robbery that occurred in the 2100 block of N. Farwell Ave. next to the Kenilworth Square Apartments on February 11th, 2008, at 8:30pm.

One suspect approached the female victim, grabbed her purse and struck her numerous times in the head with a pistol, causing her to fall to the ground. Passing Milwaukee Fire Department paramedics saw the attack and stopped to aid the victim and detain the suspect until Milwaukee Police arrived. A second suspect was also arrested. In addition to the MFD personnel, a UWM Kenilworth resident helped detain the suspect until Police arrived.

This is a great example of the community making a difference by getting involved. The victim was transported to the hospital to be treated for her injuries. Neither the victim nor the suspects are current students at UWM. Both suspects are in custody, and the Milwaukee Police Department will be seeking charges against them.

UWM S.A.F.E Patrol Officers Find Bleeding Victim

At 1:09am, Friday December 7, UWM S.A.F.E patrol officers observed a male subject running westbound on Locust from Frederick bleeding heavily from his arm.

UW Milwaukee Police Officers responded and found a 19 year old non affiliated person bleeding heavily from a laceration on his arm and wrist. Our Police Officer rendered first aid to stop the bleeding and called for an ambulance.

The patient had lost a considerable amount of blood, and was running from his friends (who were trying to help him) which made him bleed faster. He lost consciousness due to blood loss as the ambulance was treating him, and he required transport to the hospital. Our SAFE patrol was in the right place at the right time to get him the medical care he needed. Also, see this link to Fox six for a story on our S.A.F.E. patrols.
