CLICK IT OR TICKET AWARD PRESENTATION

On Thusday August 10, 2006, UWM Police Officer Christopher Schuster was presented an award from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for his work with the State of Wisconsin's "Click It or Ticket" Campaign. The "Click It or Ticket" Program ran from May 7th, 2006-June 4th, 2006. During this time the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Police Department joined hundreds of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Agencies as well as more than 13,000 Agencies from across the country in enforcing seat belt laws.

The 2005 Click It or Ticket campaign increased safety belt use nationwide to 82%, the highest rate so far in the short history of the program. Young Adults are killed at a far higher rate in auto accidents due to driving inexperience, higher risk taking while driving, and low seat belt usage. Tragically, 2 out of 3 young adult drivers killed in motor vehicle accidents last year, were involved in their first and last auto accidents. In 2005 alone, auto accidents claimed the lives of 114 young adults in Wisconsin.

Beacause of the high number of UWM young adults who operate their vehicles on and around the UWM Campus, the UWM Police Department participated in this most important program.
