Abstract: Since the advent of the Iranian revolution in 1978-79, Iran has been experiencing a severe rate of inflation. In this paper we have employed the monetarists model of inflation, augmented with the exchange rate and import prices to identify the determinant of inflation in Iran. Using annual data over the 1959-90 period and several tests for cointegration, we were able to show that there are at least two cointegrating vectors among the macro variables.
