Abstract: The objective of this paper is to examining the controversy in the literature, surrounding the simultaneity between concentration and price-cost margins. As earlier studies have tested this problem in the context of developed countries only, this paper examines the relationship between concentration and profitability using data from a developing country, Malaysia. Empirical results indicate that simultaneity between concentration and margins may be ruled out in the case of Malaysian manufacturing industries.
