Abstract: This paper estimates union/nonunion wage differentials of male blue collar workers in the Korean manufacturing sector taking the sample selectivity problem into account. The results of this paper show that (1) workers in the union sector are paid more than the equivalent workers in the nonunion sector; (2) there exist different structures of wage determination in the union and nonunion sectors; and (3) the estimated union/nonunion wage differential obtained from separate union and nonunion wage equations differs from the differential obtained from the coefficient of union dummy variable with wage equations incorporating observations in both sectors.
