Abstract: In response to emerging challenge from new automation technology, some newly industrialization countries attempt to promote the transfer and assimilation of automation technolgy. This paper first presents a conceptual framework, by which international technology transfer and public policies related thereto may be assessed and then discusses empirical evidence of automation technology transfer to Korea. It concludes that informal mechanisms are as important as formal mechanisms in technology transfer.
