Introduction: Grant Proposal Requirements

According to the UTIG grant, components of evaluation encompass

1. Student Appraisal of Course Content
2. Student Evaluation of Technology
3. Student Evaluation of Collaboration with other Students
4. Student Evaluation of Faculty
5. Delineation of Rubric in order to evaluate reflective documents according to INTASC

Proposal

In order to meet the components of evaluation the following measures have been compiled to address each area. An attempt has been made to make the evaluation component compatible and concise to insure data collection, optimal response quality and consideration, and feasibility and clarity in compiling and reporting results.

Components

Student Appraisal of course content will be measured by having students complete the Student Approval of Content Pre and Post Assessment of Competencies. Most modules have two competencies which are correlated to the INTASC standards. This pre-post test assessment will measure student’s acquisition of course content.

To measure students’ immediate understanding of content, after each class students will be asked to complete a Learning Journal. These learning journals will provide anecdotal information and satisfaction regarding students’ understanding of course material and learning.

Student Evaluation of Technology

To measure effectiveness of student knowledge, understanding and use of technology, a pre and post questionnaire will be given to each student.

Student Collaboration

To measure student skills, interest and opportunities with peer collaboration, the Pre and Post Student Collaborative Inventory will be given.

Student Evaluation of Combined Faculty

Each faculty member will use their respective college/university faculty evaluation form. However, an evaluation of all faculty will be given to each student at the end of the course.

Long Range Needs Inventory

Students taking the class as post grads will be given the Long Range Needs Inventory.

Delineation of Rubric (INTASC)

Each assignment will be aligned with the appropriate INTASC standard. This will be noted in the course syllabus and a copy of the INTASC standards included. Instructors grading of the assignments will be used to measure acquisition of the standards. It is also noted that the competencies (Grant Evaluation Component #1) are aligned with the INTASC standards.

Upon completion of the course all data compiled from the above procedures will be collated, analyzed and presented in written and graph form.

Faculty Evaluation

In order to measure faculty of technological competence and experience a pre and post assessment instrument will be given.

Finally, in order to measure faculty evaluation of this experience as it relates to teaching improvement, a five question, five point rating scale will be given as a post assessment measure.

Summary

It is noted that 5 point rating scales have been used in most instances to measure content acquisition, use of technology, student collaboration and faculty. In addition, anecdotal information will be collected weekly. Grades will be a third measure for evaluation, and faculty input for technological and teaching improvement will complete the information on Evaluation.
