World Making: Art and Politics in Global Media

This next week we have some great speakers coming in for the Center for International Education conference, "World Making: Art and Politics in Global Media" that Patrice Petro and Lane Hall have organized. Students and faculty welcome and encouraged at the Friday and Saturday events.

Also, David Wilson (creative force behind the "Museum of Jurassic Technology" in Los Angeles) will give the keynote lecture for the conference. (wikipedia entry)

David's lecture is on Friday 18 April from 7:30-9:00 pm in Curtin 175. He
will be discussing his ongoing film project about the Russian Space
Program, and will show his work in the special way that only David Wilson
can. This is a lecture not to be missed!

Digital Art Invades Gasthaus Tomorrow Night!

Thursday, April 3rd at the UWM Union - Gasthaus the UWM Electronic Music Coalition will present international breaks DJ and producer General MIDI will perform along with other local DJs from the EMC and the Better Breakbeat Bureau.

There will be live visuals broadcast onto multiple projector screen by VJ Brye.

THE GREAT INTERNET SLEEPOVER

This Friday, August 24th I'll be participating in THE GREAT INTERNET SLEEPOVER at Eyebeam. The public is invited to visit from 8 PM to 10 PM but after that the doors close and the 12 hour session of netart nuttiness begins.

The Great Internet Sleepover is aimed at highlighting and supportng a developing web art movement and aesthetic. It is a chance for artists and groups creating things on the internet to meet in person, while still "keeping it on the net." Participation is welcome, and encouraged. Sleepovers are a time of bonding, and this one will hopefully lead to new collaborative works and partnerships. The artists will also have access to Eyebeam's arsenal of technologies, and the open structure of the event hopes to mimic in a physical form the same kind of free-for-all, democratic, pigpile-of-content, non sequitor style that characterizes these web surf clubs.
