Sean-nós 2008 -- Schedule of Events

A warm welcome awaits you as tradition and talent from the hearth of Ireland comes to the heart of America for our 6th Annual Sean Nós Milwaukee. Our unique, annual convivial cultural weekend features classes in the Irish language, workshops in traditional singing and old style dancing, movies, concerts and a presentation by author Dan Cassidy on his book the Secret Language of the Crossroads: How the Irish Invented Slang. This bestselling book will be available for sale and signature along with other Gaelic books and cds, including Sean-Nós Cois Locha, our award winning Sean Nós Cois Locha in the Siopa Gaeilge - our weekend Irish language books and media shop. Our Sean Nós singer/instructors include Eamónn Ó Donnchadha (Rathcairn, Meath Gaeltacht), Eilís Ui Shúilleabháin (Ballyvourney, Munster Gaeltacht) and Áine Meenahan (Camus, Conemara Gaeltacht). Ronan Regan from Galway and Maldan Meehan will conduct Sean Nós dance workshops. Irish language teachers include Bairbre NiChiardha (as Conemara), Jim Flanagan (as Ballyvourney), Dineen Grow, Micheál McMechan and Peadar Ó Muircheartaigh (as Co. Mayo).

The weekend includes concerts featuring our guests and noted Celtic singing group Navan with traditional music groups and Athás.

Sean Nós Gaeltacht Milwaukee 2008 kicks off on Friday, February 15th with "The Gathering",complete with an opening reception, introductory classes and a concert. Saturday, "The Day", sees workshops and classes, our keynote address and an evening concert featuring Navan followed by an informal late night session. On Sunday, at the "The Scattering", we will wrap up the classes and workshops, come together to plan future connections and ongoing exploration of our Gaelic culture. We will sing together our Sean Nós Gaeltacht Milwaukee anthem Mala Neifin and veiw the exciting new Gaelic language movie Seachd.

Registration for the entire weekend is $120, which includes admission to all events, workshops and classes of your choice, breakfast and lunch Saturday, traditional Irish brunch on Sunday and transfers to and from the County Clare. Special rate of $70 a night will be available at the County Clare, a lovely Irish Inn on Milwaukee's east side near the lake. To avail of this rate you must contact Sarah at the UW-Milwaukee Center for Celtic Studies and register for Sean Nós Milwaukee. A $40 deposit ensures a warm welcome at Sean-Nós Milwaukee 2008.
