13th Annual Urban Studies Programs Student Forum, 2008
April 12, 2008
The Urban Studies Programs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will be hosting its 13th Annual Student Forum on Saturday, April 12, 2008 in the Hefter Conference Center, 3271 N. Lake Drive.
The Student Forum provides a comfortable venue in which students, alumni, and faculty can come together to investigate and discuss the complexities of the urban milieu. Organized by graduate students in the Urban Studies Programs, the Forum reflects the multidisciplinary nature of the curriculum as well as the varying interests of a diverse student body.
The Forum gives students opportunities to sharpen their presentation skills and to receive constructive feedback from other scholars who share an interest in the urban environment. Students are encouraged to present their research -- class papers, theses, or dissertation chapters -- in the professional, yet relaxed, atmosphere of the Forum.
The Student Forum is structured around panels of two to three presenters grouped according to topic. Each presentation is expected to last approximately 20 minutes with a brief question and answer period to follow. The "Tools and Topics Panels," facilitated by experts and designed to address professional matters of interest to Urban Studies Programs students, will also be scheduled.
This year's Forum will conclude with a keynote address presented by Julian Agyeman, Ph.D. FRSA, entitled "Toward a 'Just' Sustainability." He is an Associate Professor at Tufts University where he also chairs the Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning.
