Q: Who can use TARC's services?
A: All undergraduates currently enrolled for credit at UWM.
Q: How can I sign up for tutoring?
A: Simply fill out the online application or stop by Bolton 180 for a paper form.
Q: How much will tutoring cost?
A: Tutoring is free.
Q: Where will the tutoring take place?
A: All TARC tutoring takes place in our centers. Most likely, you'll meet your tutor either in Bolton 180 or in Library WB42. But we also tutor in Sandburg c204 and Cunningham Hall. After you sign up for tutoring, you'll be contacted about where to meet. If you have questions or forgot your assigned location, call 414-229-2779 or stop in Bolton 180.
Q: Will my professor know that I'm receiving tutoring?
A: No. We do not reveal the names of our students to professors or instructors without your permission.
Q: What other services are available at TARC?
A: We have computer labs in Bolton 180 and Library WB42 to help you with your courses. We offer the following software:

We also have media to help you become a better student, such as videos and handouts on time management, note-taking, test preparation, test taking and other study strategies.
Study Groups
We can connect you with other students interested in studying together at the same time and place. Simply fill out a study group application and tell us what subject you'd like to study.
Q: What's expected of me at a weekly tutoring session?
A: The best thing you can do to prepare for your tutoring session is to attend class regularly and read your textbooks. Your tutor is prepared to help you review the material, not teach it. He or she can review concepts, help you talk through ideas, and ask probing questions. But success is up to you: the more actively you pursue your studies, the more you'll get out of each tutoring session.
Bring your books, assignments, and notes to each session. Also, bring any extras like calculators or charts or articles that you may need.
Q: Will I be tutored individually or in a group?
A: Tutoring is limited to four people in a group. Group size will vary depending on the time; composition tutoring is always done individually.
Q: Will I have to attend tutoring on a regular basis?
A: Learning is an active process. Tutoring is an active learning strategy. Students who attend tutoring regularly can earn higher grades.
By signing up for weekly tutoring, you're making a commitment to meet your tutor once or twice a week, regardless of whether or not you have immediate questions about the material. Tutors are paid by the session and rely on you to attend each week. If you can't make a session, please contact your tutor or our center (414-229-2779), so that he or she can plan accordingly.
Q: What if I have to miss a session?
A: Call your tutor as soon as possible. If you can't reach your tutor, call 414-229-2779. A missed session means missed income for your tutor. After two unexcused absences, you'll be dropped from the program.
Q: What are the qualifications of my tutor?
A: Tutors are second-semester sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students. Tutors have earned an A or B in your course or have "tested out." They have excellent communication skills. They have gone through an interview and have been trained.
Q: What can I expect from my tutor?
A: They'll be on time and prepared to discuss the material you've planned to work on that week. They'll keep your sessions professional and confidential.
