The Senate of the Academic Staff is the official governance body for the academic staff and represents UWM academic staff interests to our campus administration, UW System Administration and the Board of Regents. It is composed of 35 members: nine are the Academic Staff Committee members who are elected separately; 17 are representatives elected by academic staff in a particular school, college or division; and,nine are at-large members. From ACADEMIC STAFF PERSONNEL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES 102.01 Definition of the Senate of the Academic Staff There is a duly-elected Senate of the Academic Staff representative of the University Academic Staff. The Senate holds the jurisdiction and powers of the Academic Staff between general meetings of the Academic Staff. Changes in the provisions relating to the Senate of the Academic Staff must be approved by the University Academic Staff. The Bylaws of the Senate are published separately. 102.02 Procedures for Implementing Actions of the Senate of the Academic Staff Subject to the limitations of Wisconsin Statutes and the policies of the Board of Regents and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, formal actions taken by the University Academic Staff or its senate become University policy to be implemented by appropriate authorities after they have been transmitted to the Chancellor by the Secretary of the University and have been approved by the Chancellor. In the event that the Chancellor withholds approval for more than 30 days, the basis for doing so shall be transmitted in writing to the Senate of the Academic Staff within that period.
