1. General UW System policies relating to copyright are contained in General Administrative Policy Paper No. 27, Ownership, Use and Control of Instructional Materials, revised November 24, 1997 and GAPP #10 (revised 10/21/85).
   
   
2. Prior to the actual commencement of any work in which UWM may have an ownership interest, the dean of the appropriate school or college or administrator of the appropriate division and the director of the Office of Legal Affairs:

   (a)    shall be consulted whenever there is the possibility of copyright registration being made on behalf of the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin
           System;

   (b)    shall review all contracts as required by General Administrative Policy Paper No. 27 or implied by GAPP No. 10.

   In the event that copyrightable works that were not foreseen, and in which the UW System may have an ownership interest, are developed during the course of work, the above steps shall be taken as soon as possible during the development of such works.

3. All copyright agreements and registrations shall be reviewed by the vice chancellor to determine consistency with the academic mission, and then signed, if appropriate, by the vice chancellor, or, in his or her absence, the assistant chancellor for administrative affairs.
   
   
4. A copy of all executed copyright agreements and registrations shall be forwarded to and maintained in the office of the assistant chancellor for administrative affairs. The assistant chancellor for administrative affairs provides copies of registrations to the secretary of the Board of Regents.
