In December, Dr. Jeong attended a working session at the University of Tennessee School of Information Sciences to develop an experimental online “live” class that brings together SOIS, the University of Tennessee, and the School of Information Science and Technologies at the University of Puerto Rico: L & I Sci. 399: Independent Study (3 credits). SOIS will participate in the project by offering the course as an independent study for undergraduate students. SOIS students will work virtually with students from the other two schools to build a web site for a community-based service. The class will teach students about community needs for information services as well as basic web authoring skills. This project will give SOIS BSIR students a wonderful opportunity to get to know different information needs from different cultures and to serve international communities with their valuable skills.
