SOIS students who have reason to believe that they have been treated unfairly in academic matters such as grading, enforcement of requirements, and graduation decisions, have a right to file a grievance against the person or persons, faculty or staff, whom they consider to be responsible for the unfair treatment.
All appeals that require action beyond STEP 1 must be coordinated by the SOIS Associate Dean for further consideration by the Academic Appeals Subcommittee of the SOIS Executive Committee. In hearing such grievances or appeals, the Subcommittee follows the procedures set forth in the Graduate School Academic Policies & Procedures . In pursuing an appeal, the student must observe the following sequence:
The Graduate Student Appeals Faculty Handbook,
available in the office of the Associate Dean
for Graduate Academic Programs, Mitchell 261,
has more information on the appeal process.
