- Advising and Student Progress
Graduate Program Frequently Asked Questions
At the time of admission to the Master's Degree
program, a faculty advisor will be assigned to
each student. The letter of admission to the Master's
Degree program is accompanied by the name of the
faculty advisor and an invitation to consult with
him or her.
A faculty advisor is a professional mentor who
can help the student choose appropriate courses.
The advisor works with the student to plan a program
of study, concentrating on courses that will strengthen
the individual's career goals.
An exception is made in the case of incoming
students registering for their first semester
in the program. If they are not able to see their
assigned faculty advisor before beginning the
program, the graduate academic advisor will act
as interim advisor for the first semester only.
Students are free to change advisors. Normally
a student first asks the faculty member he or
she prefers if that person is willing to serve
as a faculty advisor. If a change is made, the
graduate academic advisor must be contacted in
order to record the change.
