The Center for Information Policy Research and the School of Information Studies invite you to the 2008 Ted Samore Lecture featuring Rafael Capurro.
Rafael Capurro, Founder and Director of the International Center for Information Ethics, and Editor, International Review of Information Ethics. Dr. Capurro’s work focuses on cross-cultural issues in information ethics.Through his presentation, Capurro will address the following questions: Who are we in the digital age? What does it mean for humanity to become transformed through the digital code? What are the ethical consequences? How do human cultures become hybridized and in which way does this hybridization affect the interplay with natural processes and their interplay with the production and use of all kind of artificial products in a digital economy?
We live in societies whose political, legal, military, cultural and economic systems are based on digital communication and information networks or in societies that are making major efforts to bridge the so-called digital divide. We are facing today the question of the impact of the Internet not only at all levels of society but also with regard to the self-understanding of human beings.
Does digital technology take us away from our bodies or does it allows us a different interaction with them?
Interpreting the Digital Human by Rafael Capurro is the keynote address of the Thinking Critically: Alternative Perspectives and Methods in Information Studies Conference. Sponsored by the Center for Information Policy Research (CIPR), the School of Information Studies, and theUW-Milwaukee Libraries. May 15-17, 2008.
