Course Delivery
The Institute offer courses in traditional classrooms, technology-equipped classrooms, and specialized settings on either of the two campuses of the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.  Customized courses for professionals or support staff can be arranged and need not take place in Milwaukee.

Additionally, online courses provide access to those whose schedules or geographic locations would otherwise prevent them from visiting in person.  The software currently used, Desire2Learn, is convenient, intuitive, and can be very interactive.  Generally, an online course is offered during a one- or two-week window in which a group of students and the instructor work together.

Students in online classes should be able to send and receive e-mail, be relatively comfortable with the Internet, and should have ready access to a computer with a connection to the Web.  Students who register for online courses will be contacted with information about accessing the course site.

General Information

Welcome to the Professional Development Institute.  A unit with the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, School of Information Studies (SOIS), the Institute offers non-credit workshops and other practical short courses for librarians and other information professionals who want to learn a new skill or bring their knowledge about a current topic up to date. The Institute will grow and adapt to meet the needs of the information professions.  If there are workshops or other similar kinds of short courses you would like to take or to offer to your staff (professional or support), please let us know.
