Seidler Scholarship

Undergraduate majors are encouraged to apply for the William J. Seidler Scholarship. Applicants should be declared majors who have at least one more semester in residence, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 in Philosophy courses, and have not previously won the scholarship. They will be asked to submit letters of recommendation from two philosophy professors and write a statement (100-words or less) as to why they are majoring in philosophy. For an application form or for more information on the scholarship, contact the department office (Curtin 612, 229-4719) or the undergraduate program coordinator (see our program administration page for contact information). Please check back in Fall 2007 for the deadline for the 2007 Seidler Scholarship.

Peltz Memorial Award

The Peltz Memorial Award for Excellence in Philosophy is awarded annually for the best philosophy essay submitted to the Peltz Committee. Any student, undergraduate or graduate, major or non-major, may submit a paper. All are encouraged to do so. Papers submitted for philosophy courses are entirely acceptable. No paper may exceed 25 pages. The deadline will be in April of 2008. Check back early in the Spring 08 semester for the exact date. You may contact the department office for more information and for an application form (CRT 612, 229-4719). The 2007 winners of the Peltz Award were Philosophy Graduate Student Garrett Bredeson and Undergraduate Philosophy Major Brandon Bruch.
