Research Interests:
His current research concentrates on the historical development of the Hindu and Buddhist savior-figures.

Teaching Interests:
Teaches an introduction to Asian religions, upper level courses on Hindu and Buddhist religious thought, and courses on theory and method in the comparative study of religion.

Recent Publications:
His main publications are in the areas of Vedanta and the nineteenth century Hindu saint Sri Ramakrishna. His latest published essay is "Sri Ramakrishna: At Play in His Mother's Mansion," in Hindu Spirituality II: Postclassical and Modern, volume seven of the World Spirituality Series, Crossroad Herder (1997).
