- Please see DOA-DFD WALMS room-by-room inspection report, completed September 2000 (Project 00C4H), for a detailed list of asbestos application in this building.
- Summer 1990: dust exposure assessment of mail room activities.
- Summer 2001: Room 222 floor tile and non-ACM underlayment removed.
- December 2001: Utility tunnel, room B43 and smaller adjacent pump house room abated. Ground water on tunnel floor during the abatement did not permit complete removal of ACM debris from this space; sediment on the floor should still be considered as potentially contaminated material. All other TSI removed from these areas in preparation of Kenilworth Building Site Soil & Groundwater Remediation, DFD #93107. Please see http://www.uwm.edu/Dept/PPS/Usaa/ASB/CAMPUS/KNW/tunnel.html for additional information.
- December 2001: Room 248 TSI partially abated.
- February 2002: Abatement of floor tile and leveler at south end of hallway 200D. Pipe insulation abatement in stair landing 200R.
- April-May 2002: Abatement in B57, 171 and 270 (DFD #002B2Q). Project involved abatement and demolition of old furnace. See photos for additional information.
- Environmental / Hazardous Waste Inspection Report:
January 29, 2002: Kenilworth Inspection by DNR/EPA (EPA-lead)
- April 24, 2002: Notice of Violation issued by EPA for Kenilworth
- August, 2002 Letter of Receipt from EPA for Kenilworth. No further action planned at this time.
- Rooms 213, 213A (PPS #11124) and 267 (PPS #11203) surveyed for ACM application (August 2002) prior to potential renovation. ACM ceiling tile removed from rooms 213/213A; these rooms had ACM-free floor leveler. New floor tile installed in both rooms.
- September 2002: Several window glazing samples obtained.
- October 2002: RFP issued for building development.
- October 2002: DFD Project #93107 Kenilworth Building Soil & Groundwater Remediation begins.
Project Description: The work to be performed under this project will be the result of previous and ongoing environmental site investigations and remediation activities. There are a number of areas to the rear of the building, as well as underneath an unoccupied portion of the building, that will require further investigation and/or remedial action. Two large above ground storage tanks and appurtenant piping must be removed and disposed of, and closure assessments performed for each. Soil and groundwater sampling must be conducted along the Milwaukee County-owned bike path to the rear of the Kenilworth Building lot. Floating oil on the water table below the site must be addressed. The former pump house and other outbuildings behind the main Kenilworth structure are to be razed. Two intake tunnels leading out of the building must be investigated for contamination, and properly cleaned and covered.
