Université d'Orléans

About the University and the City

The city of Orléans, located on the Loire river just one hour south of Paris, is the capital of the Region Centre. It is an historic city, liberated by Joan of Arc in 1435. Today, Orléans is a modern, scientific and economic center of 220,000 people, which is home to national and international firms.

Founded by Pope Clement V in 1306, the Université d'Orléans was a preeminent medieval university, counting among its students from that era Calvin, Rabelais, Erasmus and Molière. Today the University has over 10,000 students and occupies a wooded area near the city's center. The College of Humanities and Letters has modern, well-equipped facilities for learning the French language.
