UW-Milwaukee -- Morocco Study Abroad Program
Mohammed V University, Rabat, Morocco
About the University and the City
Located on the Atlantic Coast in the northwest corner of Africa,
Rabat is Morocco's attractive and bustling capital. It is at once an
ancient imperial city with fortified walls and monuments and a modern
urban center with almost all modern conveniences. With a population of
roughly a half-million people, the city has much variety in its
commercial and market areas, and has fashionable residential areas as
well as working class neighborhoods and crowded slums.
Named for independent Morocco's first King, who died in 1961,
Mohammed V is the national university and the most prestigious
institution of higher education in the country. Located on several
campuses in different parts of Rabat, the university
has about 25,000 students in various faculties and specialized
institutes.
