Torsion Theory

Algebra Group
Mathematical Sciences
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

An element of an Abelian group is said to be torsion if it has finite order; the collection of all elements of finite order in an Abelian group forms a subgroup called the torsion subgroup. The subject of "Torsion theory" is an axiomatic generalization of this notion to modules over arbitrary rings.

The member of the algebra group who works in this area is Mark Teply.
