E. Paul and Jane Humke International Mathematics Scholarship

Application Overview

 

Scholarship Objective:  To enable UWM undergraduate students to participate in the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics (BSM) Program or another comparable mathematics study abroad program. Students are to be mathematical science  majors in good standing. 

 

2004 - 2005 Award Committee:  Professors  Brucks, Guilbault, and Pinter.

 

Application Deadlines:  Review of applications begin March 30th for Fall study abroad and October 30th for Spring study abroad.

 

Application Materials: 

  1. Student Application Form.
  2. Record of undergraduate mathematical sciences courses.  Please list all mathematics courses taken or in progress, grades received, instructors, and when possible texts used.
  3. Statement of Interest. Briefly and candidly tell us about your interest in the mathematical sciences, and indicate why you would like to participate in a study abroad program and how such study fits into your future educational and career plans and goals.  Please limit your total statement to no more than two pages.
  4. Record of previous awards, scholarships or other related accomplishments.
  5. If  transfer student, copy of non-UWM transcripts. The award committee will obtain  UWM transcripts and hence no need to submit UWM transcripts.
  6. Faculty recommendations.  Two letters of recommendation are required.  Fill in your name on the   Recommendation Instructions Form and give one form to each faculty member writing a recommendation letter.

 

Student should submit items 1-5 to Professor K. Brucks EMS E 404 or mail to Professor K. Brucks, Humke Scholarship, University of Wisconsin, Mathematical Sciences Department, Milwaukee, WI 53201-0413 and arrange for two letter of recommendation to be sent (see Recommendation Instructions Form).
