Selected Letters

Note: Many letters contain actual signatures or other writing, and/or headers from the stationery used by the writer. The letters are not photocopies. (In fact, Sigurd didn't start using the stationery that forms the main design of this site until the 1960s.) The signatures are gif images made from scans of photocopies. A given signature may not be the exact one used on that particular letter, but will normally be in the same form. So, for example, I have several "Sincerely, Sigurd F. Olson" signatures to use on letters that he signed that way, and a couple of "Sincerely, Sig" ones to use when he signed letters that way. Any other handwriting that appears on a letter, such as a postscript, is exactly what appeared on the original letter. In some cases, such as Sigurd's April 15, 1935 letter in which he joins the Wilderness Society, I have made a gif image of the entire letter.

Listed are the date and an indication of the most important part of the contents. For letters (and journal entries) related to The Singing Wilderness, click here.
