Collection of photographs, documents and memorabilia pertaining to serviceman Leonard Crandall's active duty in the United States Army from 1943-1946. The photographs focus on the Fifth Air Force in New Guinea, Okinawa and the Philippine Islands of Leyte and Luzon, where Crandall was stationed during 1944 and 1945. They include images of camp areas, servicemen, aircraft and other equipment, and the surrounding villages, people and culture. Crandall was a Wisconsin native. Documents included are pay records, bond allotment forms, discharge papers, and correspondence, and memorabilia includes uniform patches and foreign currency. The collection also includes photographs of family and friends, Crandall's 1939 and 1941 high school annuals, and class of 1941 diploma from Cudahy High School.

Records concerning the environmental cleanup of General Mitchell International Airport and Air Reserve Station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The records include correspondence, guidance documents, enforcement records, and reports generated by the Air Force, the 440th Airlift Wing, and contractors. The records are a third copy of the original files, and placed in the Archives to fulfill a requirement in the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act. Thomas F. Hamilton's scrapbook of newsclippings about his career in aviation, especially early aviation in Milwaukee where he made propellers and airplanes at the Hamilton Aero Manufacturing Company, and his involvement with the National Aeronautical Association and Northwest Airways.

Personal papers of local aviation enthusiast George Hardie. Much material relates to Milwaukee native General Billy Mitchell,an early supporter of air power in the United States, and consists mainly of photographs, news clippings, and other information associated with the general. Correspondence, photographs, and other materials concerning the American Aviation Historical Society (AAHS) and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) are also included, documenting Hardie's involvement in these organizations, as well as material relating to Charles Lindbergh and John Kaminski. Papers of the first Polish American aviator and the first licensed pilot in Wisconsin, a stunt flyer whose career spanned from 1912-1919, and who was grounded by deteriorating eyesight. Includes correspondence and contracts with the Curtiss Exhibition Company, for whom Kaminski worked, concerning exhibition flights; and broadsides, newsclippings, and numerous photographs and newsclippings documenting his flights. The photographs are mostly of Kaminski and his Curtiss Model D pusher aircraft "Sweetheart," taken between 1912-1914 at public exhibitions or flight training schools.

Includes some photos of Kaminski's crashes at Tomahawk, Wisconsin on 4 July 1914 and at the Milwaukee Yacht Club in June 1915; and of his aircraft and fellow pilots in the 7th Aero Squadron stationed in Panama during World War I. Collection also contains correspondence, newsclippings, and interviews concerning Kaminski's participation in events marking the fiftieth anniversary of powered flight in 1953. Videocassette tape copies of motion picture footage shot by Eugene Millmann of events in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as well as a few other locations, mostly dating from the 1920s-1930s. The collection contains twenty-six separate clips, including the 1927 Milwaukee parades for aviators Charles Lindbergh and Lester Maitland, the Washington Park Zoo, Milwaukee's 75th and 100th anniversary parades, the 1951 visit of Douglas MacArthur, and the Muirdale Sanitorium. The footage totals 77 minutes in length, is in both black and white and color, and contains no sound. The footage was originally on 16 mm film. Finding aid available in the Archives.
