Biography:
Barbara Ley joined the JMC faculty in fall 2003. Prior to her appointment, she spent seven years researching and working on local and national environmental breast cancer and safe drinking water campaigns. She has published work on ethnographic strategies for studying the internet and is currently writing a book manuscript about the U.S. environmental breast cancer movement titled Assembling Breast Cancer: Activism, Science and the Environment. Other research interests include public understandings of science; media and the production of scientific and medical knowledge; on-line disease cultures and communities; and social activism and alternative media.
