Sigurd Olson has had a profound effect on my life. He opened a new world to this city girl. Now we own an island next to Listening Point and feel very much honored to be stewards of this magnificent land. His books brought a new awareness, a kinship with the world.

Thank you for affording me participation in your wilderness symposium ... it was inspirational even to those who have not aspired to be authors or professional photographers. Somehow, being with lovers of the environment is always a warm experience.

I enjoyed the wilderness writers seminar very much. Not only did I meet and listen to some inspirational authors, I now feel truly inspired to do some writing of my own.

I just wanted to send you a quick note to thank you and your board for putting on such a great event this month. The outdoor writers workshop and retreat was an inspiration. I hope you will consider making it an annual or biannual event.

I was particularly struck by the fine authors and artists you attracted to the event and I was even more pleased with how much energy you put into trying to find women writers and role models. Thank you! The Mardy Murie story was a wonderful fill-in.

Best of luck to you as you continue to build on Sig's legacy.

I want to thank you for your time and effort to pull together the symposium in Ely this past week. It was a tremendous privilege to meet you as well as to get to listen to so many respected authors and photographers as well as publishers.

It took a couple days for me to get my feet under me as I was surrounded by so many people of renown - at least in the area of outdoor writing and photography - but by Friday afternoon I was beginning to feel as though I belonged at the conference ... obviously, the trip to Sig's writing "shack" and to Listening Point were both worth the trip to Ely alone. It was indeed a thrill to sit in the cabin, to listen to a laughing loon, to stand on the same granite, and to look at the same bearberry ledge and fleur-de-lis that Sig wrote about. It was an opportunity I will always treasure and I thank you for making it possible.
