Declaration of Love, ca 1920

Sometime in 1920, possibly 1921, Sigurd wrote the following declaration of his love for Elizabeth Uhrenholdt. He met her first in 1916, and started dating her in 1917. They married on August 8, 1921. The note below, handwritten on the back of a photo (see reproductions below), was found in 1998 among some of Sigurd's things at the Dexter Library at Northland College in Ashland, Wis.

Elizabeth Dorothy Uhrenholdt

Whom I intend to marry
the very first chance I get.
Furthermore, she is the
loveliest most lovable
little woman on God's
beautiful Green Earth.
I do hereby solemnly swear
that I have loved this
woman for three consecutive
years in spite of the fact
that I have given her up and
she me.

This may sound like
unadulterated bunk to
whoever finds this missile
but as the poetry fellers say
Pax Vobiscum.
