1957 (age 58)
In
May 1957 Sigurd was appointed to the U.S. Department of the Interior's
first Advisory Committee on Fish and Wildlife. It was a three-year
term. Meanwhile, U.S. National Park Service Director Conrad Wirth
wrote Sigurd to say that whenever he has a particularly stressful day
he reads Sigurd's essay "Wild Geese" from The Singing
Wilderness, and it calms him down so that he can go to sleep.
