The American Library Association Bulletin for February 1957 listed The Singing Wilderness as one of 42 notable books from 1956 that made "a signal contribution to the literary world." And on February 28th, Sigurd was elected to the New York Academy of Sciences.

February 1972 (age 72)

Canada creates its first national parks above the 60th parallel, including Kluane National Park (shown in the photo) in the Yukon, and Nahanni National Park in the Northwest Territories (which became the first Worl Heritage Site in 1978). Sigurd had played a role in advocating protection for these areas.
