The big event this month for Sigurd was his first canoe
expedition with the group that the media dubbed "the Voyageurs."
They followed the 266-mile section of the historic voyageur's trail
from Grand Portage to Fort Frances, and received a lot of press
coverage in Canada. (For more on the Voyageurs and their expeditions,

above, Sigurd is leading the group, and right behind him is Tony
Lovink, the Netherlands ambassador to Canada.

On
July 8, at the Izaak Walton League's convention in Cincinnati, Sigurd
receives the group's highest honor, the Founder's Award. He also
officially retires as the organization's wilderness ecologist.
