CBS television's Sports Spectacular included an excerpt from The Singing Wilderness. Sigurd, whose contract with Knopf said nothing about television rights, simply gave oral permission to the network and did not think of the possibility of getting paid. This was not the first time Sigurd had ignored or not thought of the financial potential of his work, and he was rebuked by his well-respected agent and friend, Marie Rodell. "I do wish you would remember, once in a while, that you have an agent," she wrote on February 11. "Never say yes to anything relating to your books, please refer the inquiry to me. "
