 CBS
television's Sports Spectacular included an excerpt from The
Singing Wilderness. Sigurd, whose contract with Knopf said nothing
about television rights, simply gave oral permission to the network
and did not think of the possibility of getting paid. This was not the
first time Sigurd had ignored or not thought of the financial
potential of his work, and he was rebuked by his well-respected agent
and friend, Marie Rodell. "I do wish you would remember, once in
a while, that you have an agent," she wrote on February 11. "Never
say yes to anything relating to your books, please refer the inquiry
to me. "
