Olson Articles On-Line
In June 2007, the monthly updates began focusing on Sigurd Olson's magazine and newspaper articles. Over time, I hope to include most or all of these. The place to find them is on the page listing the complete bibliography of Sigurd Olson's writings. Articles with links are currently online. Some of these articles were published in 1951 in North Country Magazine. Since this magazine was a brief venture that intimately involved Olson, you can also find a full listing of these articles (with links to color scans of the actual articles) and learn about the magazine here. Finally, there are the short outdoors columns that he wrote for newspapers. A small number of these, published by the Minneapolis Star-Journal in 1941, are listed on the bibliography page mentioned above. Most of these, however, are not. Sigurd wrote a couple of hundred short sketches for newspapers; he wrote a few between 1937 and 1939, but most were from 1940 to 1943, and were syndicated to a number of newspapers, mostly in the Midwest. Sigurd's papers at the Minnesota Historical Society include the manuscript drafts of these articles, but not actual newspaper clippings. A sample of 27 of these articles appear below. Many of them probably were published as part of his "America Out of Doors" syndicated column, but there is nothing in his papers to indicate which ones did or did not get printed. |
