Current Research Interests:
Professor Weare's specialty is the history of the American South, particularly the study of African-American institutions and leadership in the New South, 1865-1968

"Charles Clinton Spaulding: Black Middle Class Leadership in the Age of Segregation," Black Leadership in the Twentieth Century, ed. John Hope Franklin and August Meier (Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 1982)

Black Business in the New South: A Social History of the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Co. (Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 1973).

He is currently working on a collective biography of several women who migrated from the South to the West in the 1890s.
