Working Title: Academic Advisor

Minimum qualifications: B.A./B.S. required, preferably in a Health Sciences discipline or related field. At least one year of experience advising in an academic setting to be considered for the Associate Advisor level. Individuals with greater than two years advising in an academic setting may be considered for the Advisor level position. Ability to effectively use computers (email, internet, office applications, etc.)

Preferred qualifications: Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and/or with diverse personalities. Experience in working with data and statistics, develop queries and present data. Strong verbal and written communication skills required.

Principal Duties:
This position will work as part of a team of advisors responsible for 100 undergraduate majors in the College of Health Sciences. Advise prospective, new, traditional, non-traditional, transfer and honors students as to the specific requirements of the majors as well as college and university requirements. Recommend electives based on students area of interest. Advise students on other educational opportunities, graduate programs and career options.

Interpret and apply university rules and regulations to assist students navigate through the administrative aspect of university life. Represent the College and University as appropriate at various meetings or on campus wide committees.

Appointment Type: Academic Staff - Fixed Term

Full time salary rate: Minimum $38,000/year depending upon qualifications

Anticipated begin date: September 1, 2006
