Steven Grobschmidt - History, Latin

Grobschmit is a history major who is scheduled to graduate in June of 1998. It is likely that he will be the first UWM graduate to be awarded the Great Books Certificate. He plans to go to graduate school in history, earn a Ph.D., and teach at the college level. His first choice for graduate school is Northwestern. Asked why as an aspiring historian he took on the Great Books challenge of studying advanced mathematics, he gave a very practical answer:

"For one thing, it will be an advantage in taking the GRE's (Graduate Record Examinations). I will have to know math to do well on those tests. Had I not signed up for the Great Books Program, it would have been five or six years between the test and my last math class. So it bolsters me up in an area where I would otherwise have been very weak."
