Deanna Wesolowski - Latin

Wesolowski transferred to UWM after a year at NYU. She spoke of difference between the two campuses.

"UWM is a bit more laid-back. There is a certain prestige to NYU, but I think it is a little more important to be free-spirited and take courses that interest you, rather than being pigeon-holed from the day you start your freshman year. There are about the same number of requirements at the two universities, but NYU's are a lot more specific. UWM requires areas instead of specific courses. The Great Books program is good in that way also. You can study a number of different classes listed in the general area of foreign languages, mathematics, and Great Books. Western Civilization 101 and 102 are the only ones where it says that you have to take this particular course. The program is very open but at the same time specific in the kind of thing that you have to learn. The classes still make you a very well-rounded person and make you think, but it is not a case of 'You must take this course'."
