Beaux-Arts style was brought to Milwaukee by Ferry & Clas in the construction of the Milwaukee Public Library in 1895. The style had become popular through its use in the buildings of the 1893 Worldís Columbian Exposition in Chicago, to which an estimated one-fourth of the American population attended. Two-story high Corinthian columns enclose the building on three sides. The main facade has a five-part division of central, domed pavilion, flanking wings, and end pavilions. This arrangement is typical of many Beaux-Arts style buildings. The building was constructed of Bedford Limestone
